I should probably do the last one first, since all the others hinge on it. Being unemployed is superfun. I'm still holding out for a hands-on job here in the city and I'm still teaching myself how to do some webdesign and java-related stuff, so I feel like I'm being prudent and doing what's best for myself. I may not have "Job Satisfaction" but I beat the Indiana Jones game yesterday, and that felt good. Time to start the day.
11/01/2000 01:59:00 PMHalloween happened yesterday and we actually got kids coming by the house which DIDN'T happen last year. We had some good costumes(a britney spears), some weird (a kid with a sign that said "give me food or money" around his neck), and a whole lot of lazy (like the 16yearold with the Dr Suess-style hat on, and nothing else out of the ordinary). There were alot of people just wearing one item and not really having any theme, but then again they could've been all dressed up under their coats since it was real chilly here last night. The plan was to give the old-stale-tasteekakes that kevin's mom gave us to the kids who were too old to be t-or-t-ing but we didn't do it and consequently we're left with only 4 reese's cups. We screwed ourselves over.
Big things to come:
I've been working feverishly on completing a new section of java-script-fun for this site, but I'm still not done. I have a full-vision that I want to complete before I leak anything but the tedious nature of the coding is making me lean towwards just doing part of the whole and forgetting the rest. If you see something cool here soon, I probably gave up. If nothing changes, then you know I'm busy toiling here at the computer, slaving until I get it just right.
Having said all that, I'll never update this site again. That's how things work on the internet; people make big plans and post to their sites that they're undergoing a huge renovation and to expect big things, and at the bottom it says "last updated dec. 12, 1996". When it comes to personal webpages, there are no repercussions for false-promises and lofty dreams, which is why I am going to create two separate internets. One will be the static-internet, home to libraries, references, and general information. It will be where kids go for book-reports and adults go for recipes and medical research. The other internet will be a dynamic-internet devoted to content which has been updated within the past week or so. Band webpages, personal webpages, and the like will be here and if they are not updated they'll be bounced down to a sucky-net, which will be a third internet which will noone will like because it won't be as hip as the dynamic internet. The Suckynet will have a 16-color limit on content and plenty of flashing text and animated gifs inserted at random into each page. As long as I'm continuing to ramble about this poorly-thought-out idea, I'll add a 4th internet for porn and it's all free and ad-less. There you go, now everyone's happy.
I'm really anxious for the halloween party pics to arrive, I should invest in more server-space.
OK, I'll get back to work, for your sake.
10/30/2000 10:23:00 AMOH geez, how could I forget the most important development of the decade thus-far?
Saturday night, halloween party at robbie and gorg's, and here's the rundown:
Gleen: Pig mask (left at foxhunt by Erin Sumner I believe), cowboy hat (c/o kevin), and a shirt that said "don't mess with texus (sic)".
Joel: Ash from Pokemon wearing a blackshirt, a hat with a printout of ash's hat-design sewed to it, a jacket with the sleeves rolled up and complete with some badges from the Gym-leaders I'd beaten, like "neil hamburger" and "Now Music and Fashion". The costume was pretty accurate, down to the most surprising part, me wearing bluejeans (I had to borrow them from kevin which was weird. It felt all wrong, but I did it, for pokemon. I had some Z's drawn under my eyes too, for that anime touch.
Erica: Misty from Pokemon with cut-off jeans and a yellow crop-top (which was another case of people wearing things they wouldn't wear for the sake of authenticity). She also had some red-suspenders and a ponytail on the side of her head (the correct side of course, we watched the cartoon as we got dressed.
Kevin: Yes, he went as Jigglypuff. Erica and I made the costume ourselves with some pink pants I had, a 2XL Pink turtleneck (fom the trift store) and big eyes made of cut-up shirts that we sewed on to the front ot the shirt. A pillow was underneth the shirt to puff out the Jiggly and it looked awesome. He got laid all over the place. OK, not really, but he did look awesome. Pictures to come, trust me, we took a whole roll at the party, mostly just when someone would say "Look at kevin! Hahahaha Get a picture!".
Other Highlights include:
Gleen: Smoking a cigarette which looked real funny when wearing the pig-mask. He talked skating with gorg and had a lot better time at the party than he expected, but he didn't go as Brock (from Pokemon) which was a let-down to us all.
Joel Trying to do the breakdancing move "the Worm" and missing the point entirely by failing to glide down across the flor and instead landing squarely on two body parts, one of which being the chin. The other, well, that's not that simple. It's another way to call a cat a dick. He writhed in pain and felt nausea build in his stomach, but he lived. Wait, this is a personal page, no need for third person, I lived and it hurt like the dickens (wah wah wahhahaha).
Erica got extremely drunk and talked to a quaker girl, and a school teacher who told a story about a 4 year old who told the teacher "I be hatin' this air on me, Bitch!". She also had a heated debate with a guy about the idealism VS realism which lasted until about 4am.
Kevin crossed his legs as he sat in a chair.
later!
10/30/2000 09:56:00 AMIdeally, this is the last blog you'll see in this lipstick-wearin' form. I'm hoping to do some redesign to put up an entirely new site, one that's vibrant and always changing, even when I'm not writing anything at all. Maybe I'll keep the lipstick just because that's all that anyone (kevin/brent) talks about, but maybe I'll add a whole nuther level of blog-nology. The truth is I learned some new code-tricks and I want to try them out, so hopefully it will look a bit cooler, because it's all about being cool.
Right now I'm listening to "Deltron3030" which is exactly like MU330 beamed 2700 years into the future in a world where ska doesn't exist. And MU330 isn't there. And Del the funkay homo is there doing all the rapping. It's actually nothing like the ska band, but it's alot like Dr. Octagon, which leads me to finally accept that most of the beauty (and the lackings) of that album was due to the production skills of the automator. Del says alot of the same technological-type-things that koolkeith did, with a similar but different style. The main difference is that it's del's voice, which kevin prefers, and I probably should agree but my main problem with del's voice is the way he ends each line he raps. He seems to go over the top and sounds like a muppet every once in a while. He still does a good job, but listening to the album having NOT heard Dr Octagon would make it alot more impressive. It's still good, and since the Automator made it, it isn't stealing anything from dr octagon. I haven't given it a full-listen yet, so this is just an initial reaction, and I haven't discovered any gems, but I can say that he hasn't said "there's a horse in the hospital" yet.
I bought "Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis" at the thrift store over the weekend. I looked for that game all-over when I was little but they never made an amiga-version, and that hurt me. I'd played all the preceding lucasfilm-games on my c64 and then on the amiga, but this one marked the end of the amiga era and I was crushed. Now that I've got my flea-market PC I can finally play the game I have waited 8 years to play, and it was $1.41. None of that money is going to george either. That'll teach him and he'll come slithering back to the amiga. Everyone will. But meanwhile the game is on cd-rom and it has sampled speech so I can make the voice of a poor harrisonford impersonator look at the gum he found under a desk and and say "It's gooey" over and over.
Alright, time to do something more productive. I've filled alot of space, so it looks impressive.
