I'm a shooting star!

OK. The job thing isn't working out just yet. The company's stock is falling, making the hiring freeze last longer, which makes me think I may need to look into actually LOOKING for a job. It's not something I'd be anxious to do, but it may prove interesting. I'm reading "What color is your parachute?" and it's telling me that the normal way to look for a job is wrong. Sure, I agree with that, but to find a job I love I need to know what I want to do, and I really am trying to figure out what I want to do. Working in Flash is fun, but who needs a low-level programmer with no formal training in this world of technology-studs? If it's you, then congratulations, I'm hired.

I work for you

Yes, it's been said that I have been out of work for 7 months, and while this is technically true, I have been working. I work for the people. It's a permanent position, fulltime, plenty of overtime, all unpaid, and the only benefit is the smile on your face. Believe me, that makes it all worth it. So, I've been hard at work, coming up with new life experiences to relate on this page, so that you have something to read to take your mind off your existence. Whether my adventures provide you with a ray of hope, that not all lives must be as horrible as yours, or just a unit to measure your greatness by comparison, I'm here for you. It's the least I can do.

Juicy

I was going through old emails today in my hotmail-inbox and I found one from Mike Fusco. It talked about a roadtrip that never happened and I remember that I never replied to the email either. That's probably why he never made me a mix-CD in the great Xmas Mix-cd-trade that went down in December/January. I guess we sometimes get what we deserve. So, I decided to check out Mike's design company's website at www.juicytemples.com. It looked nice and everything, don't get me wrong, but they pulled that old "Our site takes up your whole screen and hides the ability to leave the site" trick that I'd previously seen only in annoying pornsites that pop up as you try to leave annoying pornsites. Sure, I knew to press ctrl-W to close the shit, but some people aren't as experienced as myself and I know that the experience left me feeling frustrated. So, when trying to submerse your audience in your website, don't take away their control. It ain't right.

2 weeks of pure pleasure

Let's recap all the news I haven't been able to relate recently. I'm going to try to keep it informative and interesting but I have a tendency to relate too many details, so we'll see what happens.

Adam and Jen visit

Adam and Jen came down from NJ two weekends ago, and it was really good to see them. When we had lived together we let little things like dirty dishes eat at us and strain our friendship, but since we've been apart we've had a chance to get beyond that and now I really look forward to seeing them whenever I do. I'm certainly not a neat and tidy person (based on the state of my room). When Brent and I lived together, I would worry about the kitchen being dirty and he'd worry about all the clutter I had throughout the rest of the house. I don't like holding onto all the crap I tend to keep around the house (old printers and monitors and keyboards and the like) and I'm trying to get better about throwing more stuff away, but it's slow going. You never know when you're going to need things like Old ALF dolls and Virtual Boys. But, Back to the party: We played D+D saturday afternoon then headed to Matt Smith's bday party and all got pretty drunk, except for Dave F. Who drove and said things like "Shut up and I'll drive you home where you can all puke in your respective toilets!' or something to that effect. When we got home from the party we attempted drunk-D+D which was a horrible mistake which caused a couple of books/characters to be spilled on and absolutely no progress.

Brent and Amanda Visit

Brent and Amanda came up on Wednesday of last week for 3 days and 4 nights of turbo-charged enjoyment. We saw Neil Hamburger on Thrusday night and it was just as good as the first time I'd say. Even though he used a lot of the same material, there's something magical about seeing him on the stage, right before your very eyes, doing the routines you've laughed at for years. The crowd did a perfect job of prompting him into the ZipperSchtick, and we heckled him like crazy and he retaliated in pure Neil form.

Highlights included:

-Brent- "YOU make my life a living hell!"
-Neil- "Then leave! We all know the popular vote doesn't matter anyways its the electoral vote that counts, and last I chekced DC didn't have any of those."

-Dave- "Do the ZipperSchtick AGAIN!"
-Neil- "Tell you what, Sir... We're selling CDs here after the show, so why don't you buy one, put it in your CD walkman, put the zipperschtick on repeat and listen to it as you fall asleep in the gutter you filthy bum!"

Meeting Amanda was awesome because she was really fun and a great match for Brent. She spent a lot of time working on her thesis while she was here, but we still had time to hit the Smithsonian for the C64, The Lowrider, and Archie Bunker's Chair, and also the Medical Museum for some babies in formaldahyde. They still don't have the deformed fetuses there anymore, which is a damn shame. Oh yeah, we celebrated Brent's birthday too.

Overlap

Both visits included some frisbee play, some Harmony (chinese restaurant), and Chad Matheney sleeping on the couch, but what visit to DC would be complete without that? Kevin wasn't around much because he was in Philly the first wekend, and Megan was here during the second. Adam and I made a song during his stay, but it was real short, and Brent and I made one but didn't put any words down for it, so it was a traditional Reduced songwriting extravaganza.

That's about it for now. You need more, write me. I ended up going into more detail than I had intended anyways.Adam told Chad that the secret of being a good guest is to do other people's dishes while you're there. There are probably other good things too, like being friendly and appreciative, but I sure noticed Chad did the dishes last time he was here. Thanks Chad.
